We had the pleasure of doing another destination wedding for a wonderful couple from New York City. The bride’s mother and father live here so it was the obvious choice! Yes, we are little biased! This was an Indian wedding which featured all the rich traditions of their culture and it was absolutely striking!
The happy couple chose the beautiful Powel Crosely Estate for their wedding. The ceremony and reception were under a tent on the front lawn overlooking the gulf. The tent was a last-minute decision when rain was predicted on the special day! Fortunately, there were only a few showers, so it did not dampen any of the festivities!
Indian weddings are rich in tradition. For example, the couple and most of the women were dressed in Sari’s. The bride’s cream, gold and deep red sari was elegant and covered with beading that weighed over 20 pounds! Also, prior to the ceremony, intricate patterns drawn with mehendi (henna) were applied to the bride’s hands and feet which symbolized the deepening of bonds with her future husband. The ceremony itself took place under a mandap or canopy. And, as part of the ceremony, both the bride and groom wore a Jamal—which is similar to a lei—made of red and white carnations!
Also, the baraat, or bridegroom’s wedding procession, is where the groom actually rides in on a horse, which is covered in finery. The guests follow, taking part in the dancing and singing!
The floral design was absolutely breathtaking for this amazing couple! We did 2 floral clusters on the corners of the mandap with green fuji, white phalaenopsis, yellow lilies, and trailing amaranthus.
For the head table, the couple chose a feasting- style table with all the bridesmaids and groomsmen. We used 2 of our 39†bling candelabras and worked in small centerpieces with a garden-like feel. These included hydrangea, roses and spray roses with fillers. It was spectacular! Each of the guest tables were decorated with a pretty cube arrangement in yellow and white garden variety. The color combination of yellow and white is always so eye-catching and cheerful—just like this beautiful couple!
It was an absolute delight to be part of this wedding day which was rich in tradition and culture!
