In these “winter” months, we wanted to showcase a wedding we were proud to work on last January. Held at the glorious St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Sarasota, we chose to highlight, rather than detract from, the spectacular icons of the church with the simplicity and beauty of all-white floral arrangements.
As guests entered the church, they were greeted with a heavenly vision of the center aisle where every other pew was decorated with large puffs of Babies Breath with double-faced satin ribbon trailing with yards of sheer white tulle. The stairway up to the altar with iconic stained glass windows was flanked by two sets of white lacquered columns of varying heights on which large glass vases containing white roses and hydrangea set the perfect frame for the bride and groom.
During the actual ceremony, white orchids and roses were used at the base of 24” taper candles which were held by the participants.
The simplicity of the white theme served as a perfect backdrop for the five bridesmaids who looked lovely in their blue gowns; they carried garden-style bouquets containing white hydrangea and roses, with blue delphinium, seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus and lemon leaves for just the right amount of coordinated but contrasting color. The beautiful bride carried a trailing cascade bouquet with white roses, white dendrobium orchids and miniature calla lilies with seeded eucalyptus. The groom and his groomsmen wore boutonnieres with white spray roses, again with just a touch of seeded eucalyptus. The mothers of the bride and groom had simple, yet elegant, wrist corsages made with pearl bands and white spray roses.
